The Art of Not Selling
To me, selling is when the objective is to get something in the hands of somebody who doesn’t necessarily need or want it. Selling is about the seller, not the consumer. It’s really about manipulation, bullying, and inauthentic strategies all designed to make a buck.
In training hair stylists and mentoring team members for many years, I’ve realized I don’t like to be sold, and I don’t like to sell to others. I’m tired of being looked at as a consumer, and I refuse to look at my guests as consumers. I look at them as people in need of products and services that solve a beauty problem.
Enrolment is different then selling. Enrolment is inviting people in to be part of something. It’s about putting guests’ needs first, and really finding out what they want. It’s about discovering what might best support their health and wellness. It’s about building a relationship, educating, and empowering them to make clear choices.
